Fire Door Inspection & Certification in Florida

NFPA 80 requires fire door assemblies to be inspected and tested at least once every 12 months (annually), and after any repair or modification. Rolling fire doors and fire shutters additionally require an annual drop test to verify automatic closing. Newly installed fire doors must also receive an acceptance test. Florida AHJs, fire marshals, and insurance carriers enforce these annual inspection requirements.

A drop test is the NFPA 80 §5.2 procedure for rolling fire doors and fire shutters. The door is released as it would be in a fire (via the automatic-closing device), and the inspector confirms it fully closes at the correct governed speed and then resets properly.
